Deep Creek Wine Estate
2004 Z3 Family Reserve
Information Sheet
This is our 3rd release of our famous Z line. Unique by itself this red blend of Syrah, Zweigelt and Merlot grapes comes from select vineyards of the Okanagan Valley and was inspired by the popularity of our Zweigelt red wine series. Here, the Syrah provides the foundation of a tasty and satisfying table wine, while the Zweigelt gives plenty of fruit and chocolate notes. The Merlot component provides peppery and spicy components. Some of the best vineyards in BC provided the components that made this wine the mouth-filling adventure that it is.
The grapes were harvested on Sept. 30, Oct. 2, and Oct. 12, 2004, at an average sugar level of 22.1%. Fermentation on the grape skins lasted 8 days, and the wine macerated on the skins for a further 3 days before being pressed off. It was barrelled down into 5-year-old French oak, where it matured for 12 months before going back into stainless steel. It was treated very gently at the winery, to preserve the fruit and flavour components.
All winemaking practises at Hainle Vineyards are to the 1856 wine purity law of the Huber Family. This means no chemicals, low sulphite levels, and minimal fining and filtration, among other practises.
The wine matches beautifully with spicy poultry dishes, Mediterranean foods, soft cheeses, and shellfish.
This wine is drinking very well now, and it should cellar until at least 2012.
